| 自從美國入侵伊拉克之後，我對美軍的模型就已經不沾手。但自從去年秋天知道小號手和威龍都會推出美軍的 Stryker 裝甲車之後，我就一直有留心這模型。原因是這部車與加拿大現役的 LAV III 和 Coyote 裝甲車是近親， Stryker 甚至乎是 LAV III 的進化版。在沒有廠商會推出 LAV III 模型的前題下，這部 Stryker 便是最接近的選擇。事實上加拿大政府曾經認真考慮過購買 Stryker 的大砲版 Mobile Gun System (MGS)，以取代過時的 Leopard 坦克，但這計劃最後胎死腹中。所以這部車與加拿大實在頗有淵源！ | I stopped building US military models after the US invaded Iraq in 2003. However the Stryker vehicle is an exception because it is closely related to the Canadian LAV III and Coyote 8-wheelers. In fact Stryker is a modified version of the LAV III. Since I do not expect any LAV III plastic kit will hit the market, the Stryker model becomes the closest alternative. As a matter of fact, the Canadian government almost bought some Mobile Gun Systems (MGS), which used the Stryker platform with an M1 main gun! However the operations in Afghanistan proved the usefulness of tracked armored vehicles. Thus the Canadian Army bought some Leopard 2 (A4 and A6M) tanks from Germany and Netherland. |

| 模型是由中國大陸的小號手出產。巧合者臺灣的 AFV Club 亦生產了同比例的同樣車款。我是在三月中從一間模型店買來這盒模型，但小號手這版本是唯一我在模型店裡見過的 Stryker 模型, AFV Club 版則還未見過。組裝這盒模型倒也相當費時，原因是模型的分件相當小。零零碎碎的部件滿滿的注塑在膠架上，但不幸地部件與膠架框的連接位實在太短，很多部件需要用鋸才能平安取出，故此需時甚多。模型附屬有一塊蝕刻片，但奇怪地這蝕刻片相當厚。作為初次製作小號手的出品，這蝕刻片會否立竿見影呢？ | The model was made by Trumpeter from Mainland China. Coincidently the Taiwanese AFV Club also released the same vehicle in the same scale. This model was bought in mid March at a local hobby shop. It is the only Stryker model I have seen at any local shop; the AFV Club version has not been seen yet. It took me quite some time to assemble the vehicle because the model comes with numerous small pieces. The parts are molded reasonably detailed but some parts are very difficult or even impossible to remove from the sprue using ordinary clipper. A hobby saw is needed to do the job. The model also comes with some photo-etched (PE) parts. It is interesting to note that the parts are made by some thick metal (copper?!) Since this is my first model from Trumpeter, this makes me wonder its manufacturing skill. What is the point of using thick sheet of metal to make PE parts? |

| 上色方面今次使用了 Model Master 的水性油，因為家附近的模型店沒有郡氏的水性 H303 (油性就更加免問)，故此找來 Model Master 的 FS4734 Medium Green。上色倒也不難，但最難者是上水貼。車頭與車尾的字樣，總共由三十二個字組成，每一個黑字全是獨立一塊一塊個別的水貼！這實在是畫蛇添足之舉！ | The paint colour is medium green (FS4734) from Model Master; this is not the one said on the instruction. In fact the instruction only provided GSI colour references. Unfortunately my local hobby shop ran out of GSI H303, which is the recommended colour, it took me sometime to find the proper replacement. Anyway, the painting procedure is not very interesting but the decal application is less interesting. Trumpeter challenged the modelers by giving some individual alphabets and numbers to us to create the 16-digit long license plates. What's more is that there are front and rear license plates! What an overkill! |
