| 在二月上旬，當我得知可以參加香港電擊高達模型王大賽 2008 後，很快便決定製作這部大魔。其實我一直想製作一個在寒冷地區使用的大魔，我在 2003 年甚至乎把一部 HGUC 的 Dom Tropen 塗裝成冬季型。毫無疑問大魔在高達世界中是一個熱門的設計，在 Gundam Seed Destiny 中甚至也有一個類似大魔的機動戰士。因此它有很多變異種；據我所知這些變異機體包括有太空用的，沙漠用，甚至乎兩棲類，但偏偏沒有冬季使用的大魔。不僅是機體設計，甚至乎模型製作上亦很少有冬季使用的大魔。當我細心一想，寒冷地區使用的大魔應該與沙漠用的大魔相類似，是以這模型的設計主要是基於 MS-09H Dowage。因為我不良於設計，故此這模型的設計亦夾雜了其他大魔變異種和我以前製作過的大魔。 | In early February when I learned that I could participate in the Hong Kong Dengeki Gunpla Championship 2008, I quickly made a decision of building this Dom. I always want to build a Dom in cold area; I even painted an HGUC Dom Tropen in winter camouflage in 2003. A plan was made to build an MG Dom several years ago but it never materialized until I decided to enter this year's competition. There is no doubt that Dom is a popular design in the world of Gundam, even Gundam Seed Destiny featured an MS similar to Dom. Thus there are many variations of it. To the best of my knowledge, these variations include space-used, desert-used and even amphibian but not winter-used Dom. Not only is there a design void in this area but modelers seldom build winter-used MS. When I think about it, desert-used MS should be very similar to an MS designed for cold and snow terrain. This is the reason why this model is based on MS-09H Dowage to a very large extend. Similar to my previous MG Dom, this version of Dom also features many design features of other Dom’s because, to be honest, I am not good in design. |

| 我首先從裙甲開始製作。原來的裙甲是相當不錯的，但我卻不明白為什麼要設計成呈微微方形。當我問自己這個問題後，就想知道裙甲呈弧形會是何模樣。因此我決定替這個大魔製作一個新裙甲。新裙甲以 Mori Mori 製成，但裙甲內底的模是以原子灰製成。下面幾幅圖介紹這個模的製作過程。 | I started working on this model by scratch-building the skirt armour. The original skirt armour is quite nice but I do not understand one design feature of it. Why does the front part of the original armour is not nicely rounded? When I asked myself this question, it came another one: what if the whole skirt armour is round in shape? Therefore I decided to build a new skirt armour for this Dom. Instead of modifying the original one, I scratch built a new suite for fun. The new armour was made of Mori Mori but a mould, which was made using auto body putty, was first made to shape the underside of the skirt armour. The follow photos show the process of building the mould. |

| 當原子灰模打磨光滑後，就可以把一些 Mori Mori 鋪在模上。在 Mori Mori 乾硬之前，我以一片特製的膠片沿原子灰模邊緣刮出裙甲的雛形。這樣做亦可以控制裙甲的厚度。當 Mori Mori 乾硬之後，就可以把它從原子灰模上除下，成為裙甲的主體。如此一大塊裙甲亦要鋸開成幾小片，因為前和側甲要成為可動，以便大腿的活動。但在鋸開之前，需要把裙甲修改成左右對稱。我先在裙甲一邊貼上幾層膠紙，剪裁出那邊裙甲的輪廓之後，把呈鍋形的膠紙撕起返出來，以雙面膠紙貼在另一邊的裙甲上，就成為修改另一邊的依據。最後裙甲底用了 Evergreen 的膠條增加細部裝飾。 | Once the mould was ready, I put some Mori Mori on it and used a specially shaped plastic sheet as a tool to contour the paste. Once the Mori Mori had cured, it was removed from the mould and became the bulk part of the armour. This big piece of Mori Mori was later cut into pieces because some parts of the skirt armour were movable. Tape was used to ensure that the armour was symmetric. It was done by first putting a few layers of tape on one side of the armour, which had been properly shaped. Then I trimmed the tape so that it was shaped like the armour. Miracle happened when the tape was removed inside-out and it became a template for the other side of the armour. Details of the underside of the skirt armour were added by using Evergreen’s plastic strips of various sizes. |

| 背部的推進系統是下一個主要改造地方。大魔的變異機體 MS-09G 和 MS-09H 都有類似的背部，但因為它們的設計始於八十年代，所以稍為簡單了一些，故此我只是大概跟著照砌矣。為方便上色，內部的推進器設計作可拆卸的。如圖所見，這個背部主要以膠板搭成的。 | The next major part of this model is the back propulsion system. Two MSV Dom variations feature this back design, namely MS-09G and MS-09H. Since they were designed in the early eighties, they looked simplistic to me. Thus this Dom only loosely based on the design. The interior of the thruster was designed to be detachable for painting convenience. As is shown in the diagram, the bulk of the back propulsion system was made of different plastic sheets. |

| 我把這部大魔的大腿加長了，是由於加長了腹部；而加長腹部卻是因為新裙甲比舊有的更大，結果整體的高度比原本的高出不少。（由於這模型多用 Mori Mori，所以重量也較大。）小腿的設計參考了自己多年前製作的馬沙專用大魔。而從下面第三幅圖可見，初時腳掌的設計與最後的設計大有不同，因為初時的設計過於簡化，不適合作比賽之用。所以最後的設計以 0080 中加大魔 II 為主，亦滲入一些 Dom Tropen 的特徵。 | I lengthened the thigh of this Dom because I had lengthened the abdomen, which in turn was a result of the new and bigger skirt armour. Thus the overall height of the model was taller than a normal MG Dom. (Due to extensive use of Mori Mori, the model is also much heavier than the MG Dom.) The lower legs were modified and they were similar to the design of my Char’s Dom. The current design of the feet was different from a design shown in the third picture below. The old design was too simplistic as a competition entrant; therefore I changed it to the Rick Dom II design. The new design also carried some features of Dom Tropen, which was used in an Australian desert in Gundam 0083. The original Dom feet were modified using Mori Mori to the current state. |

| MG 版大魔在當時來說其實是生產得相當不俗，幾乎是可以不作修改就砌出來。它唯一的問題是肩甲頂莫名其妙地不是弧形。因此這毛病是一定要糾正的。故此我亦把肩甲內用膠片重造過。除此之外上臂和下臂也延長了，而下臂則改成較接近大河原邦男版的原來形態。 | The MG Dom is a well designed model; it is almost acceptable (by myself) even in out-of-box mode. The only problem with this model is its shoulder armour. For some mysterious reasons, the arch of it is not completely round. Therefore I rectified this problem. On top of that, the interior of the armour was also completely rebuilt using Evergreen’s plastic sheet. The upper arms were lengthened and the lower arms were modified so that they resembled the original design of the Dom by Kunio Okawara. |

| 因為比賽臨近，所以臂砲其實是用了其他模型零件製作而成。計有機動戰艦裡的砲戰兵大砲，裝甲核心中 Gaea 的武器零件和 HGUC Hy-Gogg 的導彈匣。另外一個飛機輪呔亦要披甲上陣。 | The gun is in fact made by parts of other models. This is a drastic measure due to the fast approaching due date. I used the big cannon of Artillery Battle Frame from Nadesico, a shoulder weapon pod from Gaea of Armoured Core, and the missile pod of the HGUC Hy-Gogg. A wheel of an airplane was used as well. |

| 這部大魔的盾牌是自製的，它的製作比製作裙甲還要艱難。製作盾牌我並非首次，上一次替馬沙專用大魔製作的盾牌效果並不理想，原因在於盾背弧度不平均。盾背是一片內弧面，肉眼難以看清弧度是否平均，銼子也伸不進去打磨，只能夠用手指頭按著沙紙慢慢打磨。故此這次製作盾牌是與製作裙甲一樣，先準備好盾背的模（這個模在下面第二張圖可見是兩隻大碗）才在上面加上 Mori Mori；造好了背面才造外面。而盾內的邊緣出現了三層，亦增加了製作難度。 | Finally the shield is a scratch-built part. It is interesting to note that the most technically challenging process of building this model is this piece. Given the unsatisfactory result of building the shield of my last Dom, the shield was built using similar method as the skirt armour. The most problematic part of building the shield and the skirt is the back sides, which are concave surfaces. As the back of the skirt is not clearly visible, it can afford a lower construction standard. This is clearly not the case for the shield though. Moreover I would like the back of the shield appears to be layered. This is why building the shield is more difficult than building the skirt armour. Because of these reasons, moulds for the inner concave surfaces are needed to allow layering Mori Mori onto them to make the skirt armour and the shield. In this way, I have greater control over the shape of the concave surfaces, which are difficult to carve and sand with precision. |

| 模型上主要關節都加上了關節套。這層有彈性的關節套是以浴室用防漏矽膠製成；這物料呈膏狀，因此可以加入水性油作調色。而因為時間關係，所以地台只能草草完成。 | Major joints on the Dom were covered to prevent snow intrusion. I used silicone caulk to make the flexible covers. The material is for plumbing but it is safe on plastic; it is even safe on painted model surface as well. I added some acrylic paint into it to colorize it. Because of time constraint, the base was roughly built. |

| 這模型主要以郡氏油性油作塗料，而金屬色則用了 Alclad II 的油漆。因為我假設這部用於寒冷地區的機動戰士有熱力控制，所以它的表面是相當之凍，出現結霜的情況。因此在最後我噴上了一層稀釋了的啞白色，亦在表面部份地方加上一些稀釋了的田宮白色普通畢地作積雪。最後我用了一丁點在美術用品店有售的 Golden Gel 作為冰柱。 | The model was painted using GSI lacquer paints on most parts. Alclad II paints were also used to simulate metallic surfaces. Since I anticipate the mobile suite has some heat signature control measure for cold area, the exterior is cold and frosted. As a result, a dull protective coat was applied, and a light layer of acrylic dull white was sprayed onto the whole model to simulate the effect. Diluted Tamiya white putty was applied to various places as pile-up snow. Finally icicles were added using clear Golden Gel, which was found in art supplies stores. |
