Bandai 1:144 HGUC Geara Doga Heavy Weapon Type (HWT)

AMS-119 Geara Doga 在電影《機動戰士高達：馬沙的反擊》中是一個由亞拉巴姆電 子公司為新自護研發的量產型機動戰士。電影中的機械設計是由出淵裕負責，但明貴美加的一幅 插畫卻見 Geara Doga 配備了一套令人耳目一新的重火砲裝備。不過多年來這 Heavy Weapon Type (HWT) 機體都沒有新的圖片資料；而不用說也沒有塑膠模型推出過。 AMS-119 Geara Doga was a mass-produced mobile suit (MS) manufactured by Anaheim Electronics for Neo Zeon in the movie Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack. The MS was designed by Yutaka Izubuchi but a drawing by Mika Akitaka depicted an idea of equipping the MS with a long-range gun. There was little information or new drawings of this “Heavy Weapons Type” (HWT) over the years. Needless to say, injection plastic model of this version of Geara Doga was never released.
萬代在前年十一月推出了 1:144 HGUC 綠色的 Geara Doga，兩個月後亦推出了幾乎 相同的藍色 AMS-119。我早就買了這兩盒模型，並已經在去年完成了綠色的 Geara Doga。我一直希望有機會用藍色的一盒去製作 HWT 版本。長久聰在去年三月號的 Hobby JAPAN 中製作了有一個不錯的 HWT 版範例。 而這個範例也是非常有用的參考，因為明貴美加的繪圖並沒有足夠的設計細節。另外值得留意的 是，角木肇替小說《機動戰士高達：U.C.》設計了一個 Geara Zulu，這是從 Geara Doga 進化 發展而成的機動戰士。由於 Geara Zulu 也有 HWT 版，所以它亦成為另一個重要的參考資料。 Bandai released a 1:144 HGUC green Geara Doga in November 2008 and an almost identical but in blue AMS-119 two months later. I bought both models and managed to finish the green Geara Doga in 2009. I always intended to finish the other model kit as the HWT version because Satoshi Nagahisa built a handsome example in the March 2009 issue of Hobby JAPAN. This example is very useful because the drawing by Akitaka does not provide any details on the design. It is noteworthy that Hajime Katoki designed a Geara Zulu, which was evolved from Geara Doga, for the novel Mobile Suit Gundam U.C.. Since Geara Zulu also has a HWT version, it becomes another important source of information on the HWT design.
我在去年十二月開始製作這模型，雖然我很滿意長久聰的作例，但我希望徹底改造這 個 HWT 版以便在模型比賽中能夠入圍。最後幾乎所有大大小小主要零件都作了修改或更換，以 下是修改的撮要：
  • 腳掌 - 以膠板和造形畢地重新製造，令到一雙腳掌更細小 和有獨特的外形。而腳掌底亦加入了強力磁石，一來可以增加體重，二來當模型放在鐵地台上可 以十分穩定地站起來。
  • 小腿 - 修改外形，主要集中下半部。
  • 膝關節 - 加寬了約一毫米。
  • 大腿 - 加長和加寬。
  • 裙甲 - 正面兩塊護甲修改了外形，左右兩側改變了結構， 而內甲則以畢地填補了。
  • 腰 - 加長了和加了一個新的球狀關節。
  • 胸 - 修改外形。
  • 肩護甲 - 兩個肩護甲都以混合畢地重新造過較細小的一雙 ，而原本肩護甲裡的噴嘴亦放棄了，因為個人覺得這設計不太合理。
  • 武器 - 加長上臂與下臂。
  • 拳頭 - 由壽屋拳頭代替了原有的那雙。
  • 肩盾 - 簡化了盾內結構，令到肩盾更能靠近肩膀。
  • 背包 - 用了不同物料重新製造過。
 I started building this model in December 2009. Although I was quite happy with the example made by Nagahisa, I decided to build my Geara Doga HWT with thorough modifications. At the end, all major parts of the kit were either modified or replaced by other parts. Here is a list of modifications:
  • Feet - Scratch-built using plastic sheet and polyester putty. Strong magnets were embedded to increase weight and stability the model is placed on metal surface;
  • Lower Legs - Heavily modified so that the lower part is slightly smaller than the original kit;
  • Knee Joints - Widened by about 1mm;
  • Upper Legs - Lengthened and Widened;
  • Skirt - The two front armours were reshaped, the two side parts were structurally changed, and the interior was filled and detailed;
  • Waist - Lengthened and a new ball joint was installed;
  • Chest - Reshaped;
  • Shoulder Armours - The parts on both sides were scratch-built using epoxy putty in such a way that they were smaller than the original parts;
  • Arms - Lower and upper arms were lengthened.
  • Fists - The original ones were replaced by those custom fists made by Kotobukiya;
  • Shoulder Shield - Interior was trimmed so that it was placed nearer to the shoulder; and
  • Backpack - Scratch-built using various raw materials.
明貴美加設計的裝備是有著一支長槍的，但我覺得整部機體並不似是遠程武器，反而 像陸戰武器一樣，所以我把長槍改作一支格林機關槍。另一個與原設定不同的是彈匣。原有的彈 匣（一個在槍下而另一個在背包後）用在長槍上實在太小不切實際，更不要說用在格林炮上。所 以我造了兩個（其實只造了一個而另一個是複製出來的）大彈匣來代替他們。其他些微設計上的 改變也是有的。 The Akitaka’s design features a long gun but I change it into a Gatling gun because the MS does not look like a long-range weapon system to me. Another major departure from the original design is the ammunition magazines. The original ones (one on the gun and one on the backpack) are too small to be practical. I replaced them by two large ones that are more suitable for a Gatling gun. Minor design changes were also made on the backpack.
由於去年製作的 Geara Doga 用了杏、啡和橙色的配搭，所以今次亦是以三種顏色作 為主色；分別是淺綠、深綠和褐黃色。淺綠色是用了GSI 為 MG 自護渣古 F2 而推出的 Gundam Colour 裡的淺綠色（CG87）。深綠色是由 GSI 的油性＃6 和＃319 調合而成。最後褐黃色則是 ＃4 和＃310 再加上大量 Gundam Colour 裡 HGUC Gogg 中的沙色（CG33）而成。不過因為調色 時自己偷懶，令到兩個綠色的色差太大，與電腦的試色有相當大的分別。幸好得友人指點，之後 使用了 Vallejo Acrylicos 的綠色舊化粉把兩個綠色染得較為協調，更加接近電腦試色的效果 。 Since the Geara Doga I built last year utilised a colour scheme of khaki-brown-orange, I chose a green-brown scheme this time for a change. The light green is the one from GSI Gundam Colour for MG Zeon Zaku F2 (CG87). The dark green is a mixture of GSI lacquer #6 and #319. Finally, the brown is #4 and #310 with plenty of sand brown from Gundam Colour for HGUC Gogg (CG33). It is a shame that the two colours of green do not look like what I want as shown in the diagram below. Fortunately, a friend suggested dry brushing to change the tone of the greens. After applying Vallejo's pigment (chrome oxide green), the light green becomes greener and the dark green becomes lighter; this is exactly what I want without too much trouble.
